Damilola Taylor’s killer released

ONE of the brothers who killed Damilola Taylor, has been released early from prison.

Damilola was the 10-year-old Nigerian schoolboy murdered at Peckham in the United Kingdom in 2000.

One of his killers, Danny Preddie, 23, was said to now be staying staying at a west London bail hostel after serving five years for the 10-year-old’s manslaughter.

Associated Press reported that “Preddie was spotted walking in a park with a bottle of beer despite strict parole conditions, including a curfew order ensuring he is not out on the streets late at night.”

His elder brother, Ricky, 24, who was also sentenced to eight years behind bars in October 2006, was released in September last year, but later recalled to jail for breaching his parole.

A spokesperson for Taylor family, Gary Trowsdale however, said he hope Preddie would be more sober outside jail.

Accoding to him, “having cost the taxpayer £15 million in police and trial fees, we hope that Danny Preddie can finally show some remorse.”

“The system of reformation does not seem to have worked for his brother, so we can only hope he is more sensible.

“If he can make some use of his life now then we should give him that chance. Whether we agree with the short sentence or not, it is served now and we have to hope he does not heap more pain and suffering on the Taylor family by having them read his name again in the papers in relation to another crime.”

Damilola’s father, Richard Taylor, had earlier queried the Preddies sentenced at the Old Bailey, raising doubt whether the jail terms would act as a deterrent to others.
