Police arrest man with human head in P/H •…man arrested over theft of vegetables

A 28-year-old man, simply identified as Lise, was on Saturday arrested in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, with a human head.

Lise, Sunday Tribune gathered, was arrested around Nembe Waterside, Old Town axis of the city, in the morning and was promptly taken to the nearby Borokiri Police station, where he was detained to be investigated.

Efforts by Sunday Tribune to speak with the man were unsuccessful as police personnel on duty did not allow access to him.

But a policeman on duty, who spoke to Sunday Tribune under conditions of anonymity confirmed the arrest, adding “We will ensure thorough investigations and charge the suspect to court, if he is found culpable.”

When reached for official confirmation, the spokesman of the Rivers State police command, Ben Ugwuegbulam, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said Lise was arrested with a human head.

He, however, said the command would brief the media on the matter after a thorough investigation must have been carried out on it.

In another development, the state police command rescued one Madam Felicia, a 74- year-old, and recovered the sum of N600,000 ransom fee already paid to her kidnappers, recently.

According to a police report obtained by Sunday Tribune in Port Harcourt over the weekend, Madam Felicia was kidnapped on August 21 this year.

The report provided by the state police command’s spokesman, Ugwuegbulam, the rescue operation followed a thorough investigation, adding that the victim was rescued after the kidnappers sustained injuries in the ensuing crossfire.

Meanwhile, AN age-long proverb says that an empty hand is a devil’s workshop and that one can only deceive the people for sometime, but not always.

This wise crack aptly played itself out last Wednesday in Minna, Niger State capital, as a self-confessed jobless Law graduate of Amhadu Bello University, Zaria, Kaduna State, Sadiq Chukwuma, began his journey to the Nigerian Prisons custody following his arrest with some stolen fresh vegetables (Ugwu Leaves) by the police at the popular Mobil Junction market within the metropolis.

Initially, his arrest would have been impossible by the police, as the 27-year-old suspect was said to have wriggled himself free from the grip of his captors who were mostly women, as he allegedly bolted away with the stolen vegetables, after which the long arm of the law caught up with him when he was traced to the market by the police, while selling the stolen fresh vegetables to unsuspecting members of the public.

Sunday Trubune investigation further gathered that no sooner his arrest was effected by the police than he confessed to the crime and blamed poverty as responsible for the ignoble act, stating that his inability to afford the cost of going to the Institute of the Advanced Legal Studies, Enugu Campus, for his one year mandatory academic programme that would have afforded him the opportunity of being called to the Nigerian Bar, last year, coupled with his status as a married man further compounded his problems.
