Kogi guber election: 7 pick PDP’s nomination form

AS Kogi State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is set for the conduct of governorship primary election on Thursday, no fewer than seven aspirants have picked the party’s nomination form.

The aspirants are Alhaji Isah Jubrin Echocho, Alhaji AbdulRasaq Isah Kutepa, the current deputy governor of the state, Mr. Phillips Salawu and AVM Saliu Atawode. Others are Mr. Adinoye Onukaba Ojo, AVM Isaac Alfa and Captain Idris Wada.

One of the  party’s  aspirants, Alhaji AbdulRasaq Isa Kutepa, has, therefore, called on the party’s leadership to ensure a level playing field for all candidates.

Alhaji AbdulRasaq Isa Kutepa, who stated this while speaking with newsmen on his political ambition, said that it was only a level playing ground that would guarantee a successful election in the state.

His words, “I have no doubt with what we experienced in the last primary election and  after series of complaints by all the contestants, I have no doubt that our party leaders will provide a level playing field for all the aspirants to compete on what the candidates represent and their strength.”

Meanwhile, the former Minister for Sports and Socio Development,Dr. Sumaila Sambawa, has disclosed that the seven governorship aspirants will be screened in Nasarawa State and those that scale through will go for the primary.

Addressing newsmen in Lokoja during the monitoring exercise of the ward congress of the party, on Saturday,  he opined that the ward aongress panel was in Kogi State at the instance of  President Goodluck Jonathan to monitor the exercise.

He also warned that the panel would cancel  elections anywhere elections were  rigged.

Dr. Sambawa, who led a five-man ward congress panel to Kogi State, added that the state governor, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris, had given them his words that  there would be a free and fair ward congress in the state.
