Jonathan dissolves board of federal parastatal agencies
Goodluck Jonathan (2010-present), Presidency Wednesday, October 19th, 2011PRESIDENT Goodluck Jonathan has announced the dissolution of boards of Federal Government parastatal agencies, explaining that the action ought to have been taken before now but the government decided not to rush it.
He made the announcement at the State House, on Wednesday, during the inauguration of the committee on the composition of the boards of Federal Government’s parastatal agencies, chaired by Vice-President Namadi Sambo.
Jonathan said members of the various dissolved boards were not asked to go because of incompetence, adding that the action was in line with the tradition, where the boards were reconstituted every four years.
According to him, “it is customary that at the end of every four years, the boards of Federal Government parastatal agencies are dissolved. The dissolution would have been done earlier, but this is a continuous government, that is why we were not in a hurry to dissolve boards. But, of course, we have to review and reposition properly.”
The president thanked chairmen and members of the dissolved boards who, he said, had served the country well.
