Adamawa 1012: Nyako emerges PDP candidate

Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State yesterday emerged as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate at the last primary election held at Lamido Cinena, Yola, having polled 854 votes.

The Chief Returning Officer of the governorship committee and the Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, disclosed that the incumbent governor, Murtala Nyako polled 854 votes out of the 863 accredited delegates while nine votes were void.
Wike also disclosed that his only opponent Dr. Umar Ardo could not poll a vote.

In his acceptance speech, the governor thanked the delegates for expressing such confidence in him through their votes and promised not to let them down.

Nyako further expressed optimism that his party would clinch the governorship election and he would be returned as the governor of Adamawa State in the January 14, 2012 election as PDP had firmly established its presence in the state more than other political parties.

Although, Umar Ardo, contestant for the ticket was conspicuously absent, he had earlier maintained that he would accept the verdict provided the primary election was conducted under free and fair atmosphere but not coercing the delegates.
Ardo who said this at a pre-primary press conference by Wike electoral panel maintained that while it was paramount in the mind of every PDP member for the party to clinch the 2012 election, the issue of truthfulness, honesty and justice should be paramount also.

He also disclosed to the electoral panel that he had file petition to the National Secretariat over alleged unfairness in handling of the three ward delegates across the state as it pre-decided by the power that be and threatened a legal suit against that.
