Ekiti, Headlines, State News Wednesday, November 9th, 2011A two-week-old baby was found dumped at Eke Olere Close in Moferere Area of Ado-Ekiti, the Ekiti Ekiti State capital, on Tuesday.
The baby girl was found wrapped in a white shawl and placed in a carton left in front of the home of a former chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in the area.
The baby, sources said, had been taken to the Erelu Adebayo Children’s Home at Iyin, in Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Area of the state by the police.
Speaking on the development, a resident of the neighbourhood, who preferred anonymity, said inhabitants of the Eke Olere Villa, believed to be the home of the NURTW chieftain, identified simply as Chief Eke Olere, noted the cry of the baby at about 11.00 p.m on Monday, before the wife of the ex-NURTW boss heard the baby crying again on Tuesday morning.
She was said to have alerted her husband and other residents of the area to the development.
The source also alleged that the mother of the abandoned girl wrote her date of birth on a sheet of paper, which she left in the carton holding the baby.
