Same sex marriage: Jonathan should speak out now –Senator Agbo
Latest Politics Tuesday, November 22nd, 2011The immediate past vice-chairman of Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory, Senator Anthony Agbo has urged President Goodluck Jonathan to speak out on the call on African countries to adopt same sex marriage as directed by British Prime Minister.
British Prime Minister, Cameron, was quoted to have recently called on African countries to adopt same sex marriage if they would continue to enjoy aids from the UK.
Agbo, who spoke to newsmen in Abakaliki yesterday, argued that the silence of the President over the matter was ominous and wondered how the immoral practice of same sex marriage should be tied to any form of economic aides to African countries and expressed worry that Nigeria was yet to speak out on the matter.
The Senator maintained that from its strategic position in Africa, Nigeria ought to show leadership in such sensitive issues, noting with joy that some African nations like Ghana had told the British Premier to perish his ludicrous idea.
Agbo, who wondered why the President had remained silent over such a mind blowing statement from the British Prime Minister, said: “Political leader of a nation is also seen as the spiritual leader and a minister of God. It is gladdening that Ghana and about four other countries have spoken defiantly against the evil proposition.”
He added that “our leaders should remember that European nations are going down based on their stand on such ungodly propositions” and African nations could find themselves in near extinct situation if they do not rise up against such immoral and devilish ideas.
“So I expect President Goodluck Jonathan to lead opinion on this matter. Why is he keeping strange silence to this satanic policy of same sex marriage? Nigerians would want to hear the voice of their leader on the matter,” the Senator stressed, adding that the silence could mean acquiescence if the country did not make its stand known.
Senator said President Jonathan cannot afford to maintain silence on the matter pointing out that he should let God know where he stands on the controversial pronouncement by Cameron even as he called on religious and opinion leaders in the country to condemn the derisive conditionality for economic aid proposed by the British Prime Minister.
