Dual citizenship: We have appealed verdict – PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Oyo State chapter, said it has appealed against the judgment of the governorship election tribunal which declared the state governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, as the elected governor of the state.

The party secretary (PDP), Alhaji Bashiru Akanbi, told newsmen in Ibadan, on Wednesday, that the party had filed its appeal against the ruling of the state governorship election petition tribunal which upheld the election of Governor Ajimobi in the April general election.

He said that the party was determined to pursue its case against the alleged dual citizenship of Senator Ajimobi to its logical conclusion,  stressing that nothing would stop PDP as a party that believed  in the rule of law from pursuing the election petition as well as protecting the nation’s growing democracy through the Appeal.

”I wish to inform you that PDP has already filed its appeal against the judgment of the Oyo State governorship election petition tribunal which dismissed our petition against the election of Senator Abiola Ajimobi as the governor of Oyo state.

“Our party is determined to pursue the case to the logical conclusion as stipulated by the law of the land,” he said.

Speaking further, the PDP secretary asked the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) administration in the state to brace up and take the act of governing the state as a serious business saying, for now, Governor Ajimobi’s administration remained a total failure.

Alhaji Akanbi maintained that presently, it was glaring that the ACN-led administration in the state lacked direction going by its continuous erection of  ”signposts” on road construction and rehabilitation around the state without any road being constructed or rehabilitated.

”The administration of Governor Abiola Ajimobi in Oyo state in the last 202 days in office has not shown any clear direction in office. He promised at the inception of his administration to create 20,000 jobs within his 100 days in office but the administration is 202 days  yet he has not created a single job not to talk of 20,000 jobs,”he said.

It will be recalled that the governorship election petition tribunal sitting in Ibadan dismissed the petition filed by the (PDP) alleging the dual citizenship of Governor Abiola Ajimobi.
