OSOGBO—The on-going trial of the Alowa of Ilowa in Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State, Oba Adebukola Alli, over the alleged rape of a female member of the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, Miss Hellen Okpara, was Tuesday stalled following the inability of the state Prosecutor Mr. Abiodun Badiora, to present witnesses before the court.
Oba Alli has early this year been arraigned in court over allegation of rape of the corps member serving in his domain.
The monarch, who was only granted bail at the last sitting on account of ill-health after spending several months in Ilesa prison, was physically present in court yesterday.
At the resume hearing, the monarch who was accompanied by one of his wives and other traditional chiefs from the town looked unruffled throughout the duration of the proceedings in court.
When the case came up for hearing, the state prosecutor told the presiding judge, Justice Jide Falola, that some of his witnesses were not available in court for cross-examination.
He urged the court to fix another date for hearing and assured the judge that he would produce his witnesses to testify before the court.
Counsel to the embattled monarch, Mr. Tewogbade did not oppose the request of the state counsel, but expressed the need for speedy trial.
The trial judge then adjourned matter till January 31, 2012 for further hearing.
It will be recalled that the monarch was alleged to have on March 25, 2011 at his Osogbo residence forcefully raped a 23-year-old corps member without using condom.
