SSS nabs fraudsters using Jonathan’s, Anyim’s names in P/H
Headlines Tuesday, December 13th, 2011The Rivers State command of the State Security Service (SSS), on Tuesday, paraded three suspects who have allegedly attempted to defraud some influential Nigerians, impersonating President Goodluck Jonathan and the Secretary to the Federal Government (SGF), Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.
Addressing journalists while parading the three suspects, the state Director of SSS, Mr Segun Agbaje, said they had attempted to defraud the Managing Director of Diamond Bank, Dr Alex Otti, the sum of N40 million.
According to the SSS boss, the suspects also peddled the names of Chief Mike Oghiadome and the new Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr Christian Oboh, while plotting to hatch their crime.
“Between November 30 and December 2, 2011 two members of a notorious gang of fraudsters, identified as Amil Ayekimo Avery, from Bayelsa State and Mohammed Ogwurude, 42, from Benue State, were arrested in respect of an attempt to defraud the Managing Director of Diamond Bank, Dr Alex Otti, of N40 million.
“The leader of the gang, Tony Allagoa, who is at large, had contacted the bank chief (Otti) on October 17, 2011, claiming to be the SGF. In the subsequent telephone messages, especially that of November 16, 2011, Allagoa still posing as the SGF, informed Otti that he had just concluded a meeting with President Jonathan.’’
