DIG’s death in hotel: Suspect flown to Abuja

The female Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), who was said to be the guest of the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police in-charge of investigations, Mr. Ganiyi Ali Dawodu, at the time of his death, has been flown to Abuja for questioning.

Dawodu died in a hotel room in Lagos, after he represented the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr. Hafiz Ringim, during the commissioning of Crime File, organized by Bi-Communications, producers of Crime Fighters: Police and You, held at Sheraton Hotels, Ikeja, on Thursday, December 15, 20011.

Daily Sun gathered from a senior police officer that the female officer, who came from Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, was ordered to be flown to Abuja, by Ringim to help the detectives in their investigation, into the cause of the sudden death of the police boss.

The source said: “It is part of investigation. The lady was with him in the same room before he died. So, police authorities would like to get details of what transpired in the hotel room and how the DIG died.” According to him, there was nothing wrong in the IGP ordering that the lady be flown to Abuja for further investigation.

“Nobody is accusing her of killing oga, but it is part of fact finding. She has to keep the record straight on what really transpired. We are talking of a Deputy Inspector General of Police and not a small person in the society,” he stressed.
He said since it was the female police officer, who called for assistance when the DIG collapsed, she stands the chance of giving details of what went wrong before he died.

Though, a Muslim, the deceased had not been buried because the IGP had insisted that an autopsy be carried out before his burial, because of the circumstances surrounding his death.
