April Election: Another Group Back Imoke’s Re-election Bid

CALABAR, January 04, (THEWILL) – Tinkoriko Mission Hill, a socio cultural group comprising of youths of voting age from the Southern Senatorial Distinct of Cross River State, has identified with the people oriented policy thrust programme of Governor Liyel Imoke and assured him of support in the April 2012 gubernatorial election.
While presenting the Governor with a plague, tee shirt and a cap with the inscription “Tinkoriko Imoke and Efiok for 2012’ at the Millennium Park, Calabar, its leader, Mr. Antiagha Ambo, said Imoke has impacted positively on the lives of the people irrespective of place of birth and political lining, explaining that their outing was specifically to appreciate Imoke as well as urge him to go for a second term because they are solidly behind him.
Ambo described their outing as a solidarity rally, which he believed, had gathered momentum within their catchment area, adding that the presentation was in acknowledgement of his achievements.
A member, board of Trustee (BOT) of the Tinkoriko, Mr. Victor Edem, explained that they have watched with keen interest what Imoke has done in the state and have no option than to urge him to go for a second term.
Mr. Ayi Etim Effiong, who described the group as a socio-cultural organization with strong traditional heritage, said it was set up by a few people to get the youths of the Southern Senatorial district together, adding that it has metamorphosed into a 30,000 strong body with all its members above 18 years.
Effiong said with that numerical strength, members will campaign for Imoke to ensure his victory as their decision is not based on sentiment but on facts because the governor has done tremendously well.
Mr. Victor Effiong Okon aka Aluasa and an executive member of the group said their support is total as the theme of their banner which was “Tinkoriko Mission Hill supports Imoke and Efiok 2012” spoke for itself, explaining that with a membership which stretches from Bakassi, Akpabuyo, Calabar Municipality, Calabar South, Odukpani Akamkpa and Biase Local Government Areas victory is sure.
The Secretary Calabar South Local Government Council, Dr. Emmanuel Eyo, said it was appropriate and proper for the group to identify with Imoke early in the new year by pledging its total support for his second term bid, adding that the Governor is visionary leader who has done will in the state and they congregated to say so.
According to Eyo, who is also the Secretary Board of Trustee of Tinkoriko, the solidarity was the commencement of a strong campaign for Imoke in the Southern Senatorial district, which the people should expect.
Responding, Governor Liyel Imoke, who was accompanied by Minister for Culture, Tourism and Orientation, Chief Edem Duke, Chairmen of Calabar Municipality Hon. Eta Mbora and his counterpart from Calabar South, Hon Ekeng Henshaw, Hon. Bassey Ephraim of State House of Assembly and Hon. Orok Otu Duke an ex-member of the House of Assembly and erstwhile leader of the group, thanked them for their support which he said was a reflection of appreciation of what the government has done for them.
Imoke described the group as a part of government because its leadership is part of government and assured that he will continue to make sure the area which they represent benefit from government in many ways, adding that government is determined to make the youth become active and progressive people in the society through a well articulated empowerment programme.
He disclosed government determination to ensure that youths are actively engaged to enable them contribute meaningfully to the development of the state while assuring them that 2012 has a package which will move the state higher and the peoples’ lots improved.
