Asaba—AN Inspector of Police was, yesterday, killed at Eku in Delta State, while chasing a gang of suspected kidnappers.
The ugly incident occurred when the police officer, along with his colleagues attached to an anti-crime patrol team, were chasing the kidnappers, who were fleeing with a victim tucked in the booth of a Honda car.
State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Charles Muka, confirmed the incident to our reporter, yesterday.
He said: “A gang of unknown gunmen kidnapped one Mr. Adjuya Emuoborin in Warri in the early hours of yesterday. Our men gave them a hot chase and at Eku, during a cross fire, they (bandits) got one of our men, a police inspector, shot him dead and fled into the bush. They abandoned their Honda car with the kidnapped victim in the booth and ran into the bush.
“We (police) are on their trail and would definitely get them.”
Last week, the state governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, while addressing traditional rulers in the state, expressed worry over the issue of kidnapping, saying that the state government was out to tackle it headlong.
