Just in: Boko Haram bombs two more churches in Bauchi
Bauchi, Boko Haram, Headlines, State News Sunday, January 22nd, 2012Kano – Explosions struck two churches in the northern Nigerian city of Bauchi on Sunday, witnesses said, destroying one of them completely, although there were no immediate reports of casualties.
Bauchi township resident Garbi Ali said he heard two explosions at around 02:00 on Sunday, before anyone would be likely to be in church, and went out to investigate.
“One of the churches was at the railway line. They just destroyed the gate. But the other one at Fadama was completely destroyed and the roof collapsed,” he told Reuters by telephone, adding that he did not think there were any casualties.
Police say 11 people have been killed in an attack in Nigeria’s north state of Bauchi.
Bauchi state commissioner of police Ikechukwu Aduba said on Sunday that the attack happened overnight. He said a total of 11 people were killed, including civilians, police and army personnel who were running a checkpoint.
He did not immediately name who was responsible for the attacks.
