Lateness: Amosun locks out commissioners, aides, workers

Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun yesterday stunned thousands of civil servants and other political aides including serving commissioners as he locked them out for late arrival at their duty posts at the state secretariat.

Amosun had arrived Oke Mosan state secretariat in company with the Secretary to the State Government, Mr. Taiwo Adeoluwa and the Head of Service, Mrs. Modupe Adekunle before the official resumption time of 7.30a.m and ordered that the two gates leading to the secretariat be shut.
The late comers who included serving commissioners, senior special assistants, and other political appointees were shocked that the gates leading to the secretariat had been shut on the order of the governor.

In a bid to beat the governor’s order, the affected “late comers” resorted to entering the secretariat through footpaths and sneaked into their offices.
The Head of Service, Mrs Modupe Adekunle, in an interview with journalists disclosed: “Most workers were not on their seats by 30 minutes to eight hence we decided to enforce the punctuality rule.

This administration will no longer tolerate lateness as punctuality is the soul of business.”
According to the HoS, although those that were affected would not be punished, she stressed that in future subsequent exercise, anyone caught would face the music.”
Adeoluwa also stressed that there would be no room for indiscipline among the workers.
According to him, there was no reason for any staff to get to office late, because the state government had provided staff bus to convey them to the secretariat.

A civil servant in one of the ministries who spoke with Daily Sun on condition of anonymity attributed his lateness to a domestic problem.
“I am not used to coming late to office, Unfortunately for me, I came late today and this will not happen again.”
