Security agencies yet to infiltrate Boko Haram –Expert
Boko Haram, Latest Politics Wednesday, January 25th, 2012A security expert, Chief Anabs Sara-Igbe, says until security agencies infiltrate Boko Haram and understand its ideology, command structure and mode of operation, the violent group will continue to succeed in its dastardly activities.
Sara-Idigbe, a former Security Adviser to the Rivers State Government, also in Abuja on Tuesday advised the security agencies to pay special attention to the airports to foil attempts by Boko Haram to hijack aircraft for attacks against national assets and public buildings.
He said the police could not handle terrorism, because that they were not trained for such a security challenge.
According to him, only a counter-terrorism unit comprising specially trained personnel can tackle terrorism
Sara-Igbe alleged that President Goodluck Jonathan was not taking the right advice on the security issue, saying combating the prevailing security challenges in the country was not about huge budgetary allocation.
He insisted that tackling the Boko Haram insurgency required the right intelligence and effective strategies to contain the rampaging sect.
The security consultant explained that Boko Haram could not have succeeded in its attacks without the support and collaboration of key security personnel, stressing that “no terrorism succeeds without conspiracy in high places.”
He called on the President to reshuffle his cabinet if he had no confidence in the officials in his government, saying disclosing that his administration had been infiltrated by Boko Haram was not enough.
Sara-Igbe said, “For the security agencies to get them (Boko Haram), they have to infiltrate the sect’s network. They (Boko Haram) have infiltrated Nigeria’s security network, but the security network hasn’t infiltrated Boko Haram.”
