Bayelsa guber: 15,000 security operatives deployed

Yenagoa—Police authorities have deployed 10,000 personnel for tomorrow’s governorship electios in Bayelsa State, while other security agencies are to provide additional 5,000 men, bringing the total to 15,000.
Aside the 15,000 security personnel deployed for the exercise, anti- bomb squads drawn from neighbouring Edo, Delta and Rivers States, are expected to arrive the state today to complement the security on ground to ensure a hitch free poll.
At press time, some of the officers deployed in far flung communities on the Atlantic fringe were being conveyed to Yenagoa jetty to board boats provided by the command for onward journey to their respective areas of assignment.
State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Chris Olakpe, who spoke to newsmen yesterday, in Yenagoa on the preparedness of the command for tomorrow’s poll, assured Bayelsans that the entire state would be effectively policed to ensure a hitch free election.
Olakpe, who assumed duty on Wednesday as the state Police Commissioner, said: “I want to assure Bayelsans that we have the manpower to ensure a hitch free election. We have deployed 10,000 men for the exercise and our sister agencies are also bringing 5,000 men. So we are expecting 15,000 men to provide security to ensure a peaceful poll.”
He said those deployed in riverine communities had to move early so that they would be at their respective duty posts before the commencement of the exercise for effective policing of the process to ensure a hitch free poll.
