THE Kano State government has disbursed over N200 million to the families of the 185 people who lost their lives during the January 20 bomb blast that rocked the city of Kano. Each family  got N1 million.

But the families of the five deceased senior police officers got N1.5 million each.

This was contained in a statement made available to the Nigerian Tribune on Tuesday in Kano and signed by Baba H. Dantiye, Director, Communication and P.R. Strategy to the Governor.

Presenting cheques to the affected families in Government House, Kano shortly after a meeting with stakeholders in the state, Governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, explained that the monies were realised from public spirited individuals and organisations who want to help alleviate the sufferings of those who lost their loved ones during the incident.

He disclosed that a  breakdown of the total money collected as donation showed that the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) gave N100 million while Alhaji Sayyu Dantata presented N50 million. Katsina and Jigawa state governments donated N20 million each; Kaduna and Bauchi state governments, N10 million each; Kogi State government and ASD Motors, N5 million each and Alhaji Kabiru Sani Kwangilalso, N20 million.

The gesture, he said  was “a modest effort to enable the beneficiaries start endeavours that will help them to cater for themselves since their bread winners are no more.”

On the report of the 15-man consultative committee set up by the government in the aftermath of the January 20 bombings, Governor Kwankwaso explained that proactive measures had been taken to implement the recommendations.
