THREE days after their breadwinner, Pastor Isua Kiforo, was shot at the Kaduna State Government House by security operatives, who took him for a suicide bomber, life has become miserable for the family.

His wife, Charity, who spoke yesterday on the incident and the plight of the family since the incident occurred, raised a lot of posers, which she wants the security agencies to answer.                

She alleged that her husband, who is the Director of Finance and Administration, Kaduna State Ministry of Information, was treated by the Army and the police like a common criminal.             

Kiforo was allegedly shot several times for purportedly driving dangerously into Kaduna State Government House on Monday. But his troubled wife yesterday said that her prayer was that Kiforo would survive the assault on him to tell his side of the story.               

She insisted that her husband of 25 years was shot in error because “he is not known to breaking the law.”

In an interview with journalists at the heavily guarded 44 Army Referral Hospital, Kaduna where Kiforo is being treated yesterday, Charity said her husband had undergone an operation in which several bullets were removed from his legs and abdomen, largely on her family expenses, though he was brought there by the government.

She said: “I have never known my husband to have problems with the law. He has never even been to a police station because of his misconduct. He is a minister of the gospel in Living Faith Church, Kakuri, and he is a senior government personnel and goes to the Government House often, and is well known at the gate by most of the operatives at the Government House. I am still wondering why he had to be so shot like a man engaged in exchange of gunfire with the Army and the Police.

“I was told that even after they brought him down, they drove an armoured tank and pointed their guns on him where he lay unconscious and bleeding.               

“There must have been a huge error on the part of the security personnel there. As you can see, since morning (yesterday), several pastors both from our church and other ministries have been trooping here to show their shock at what happened. My husband would never hurt anyone, and I have never known him to break the law, even when he was a younger man. We are going to look for ways to find out what led them to almost kill him. If you look at his car, from what I am told, there was nowhere it showed that he banged on any thing. There is no dent on the car. They did not shoot him in the car because there is no bullet hole in it. He was allowed to enter through the main gate, as they usually do after he identified himself, being someone they know very well. Why he was made to stop and alighted from the car and shot so brutally with only his phone in his hand, is something I want to consider as a grave error on the part of the security people there. They have caused us so much pain and anguish.

“We are saddled with the medical bills now, but believing God that he would provide more for us, and that my husband will come out and tell the world what really happened.

“He was operated yesterday. Many bullets were removed from his stomach and leg. God will take care of everything,” she stated.               .

On Monday, Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Malam Mohammed Bala Nasarwa, in a statement said: “At about 1328 hours, a combined team of security personnel attached to Government House main gate, Kaduna, intercepted a Toyota Corolla Saloon car, maroon in colour with Kaduna State Government official No. Kaduna, KD-06-A 04.              .

“The driver drove dangerously in a suspicious manner towards the Government House gate. The security personnel stopped the lone occupant, but instead of stopping, he forced himself through the exit gate and found his way into the Government House.

“The security agencies, thereafter, opened fire and shot the suspect on the leg and lower abdominal part of his body. The suspect was later identified as Pastor Isuwa Kiforo ‘M’ of No.7 Abba Rimi Narayi, Kaduna, who is the Director, Finance and Administration, Ministry of Information, Kaduna State.”

The Guardian also learnt yesterday that Security Adviser and Co-ordinator of the Kaduna State Joint Security Task Force, also known as Operation Yaki, Col. Dangana Mamman (rtd), was among the victims of last Tuesday’s blast that claimed the live of a police bomb disposal expert.

Mamman, who is receiving treatment at the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) in Shika, was billed for a surgery yesterday. He sustained serious wounds from the explosion in Unguar Sarki.

A top Government House official told reporters that “the co-ordinator was rushed to Shika for medical attention” because of the severe injuries he sustained.

“When the first bomb blast occurred, he rushed to the scene with his team, but while trying to secure the area, the second explosion went off and he was hit. Now, he is going through an operation on his neck at Shika,” the official said
