Madalla Bombing: SSS Declares Ex-Soldier Wanted
Boko Haram, Latest Politics, Niger, State News Thursday, February 16th, 2012By Ike Abonyi
As a fall-out from the arrest of two Boko Haram suspects, Abu Qaqa and Kabiru Sokoto, the State Security Services (SSS) Wednesday declared a former soldier, Habibu Bama, wanted.
A statement from the service spokesperson, Marilyn Ogar, said: “The person whose photograph appears above is Habibu Bama. He is hereby declared wanted by the Federal Government in connection with crimes against the state.”
Although the statement did not specify the crime which Bama committed, THISDAY learnt that it was not unconnected with the Christmas Day bombing of St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla, Niger State, where about 45 worshippers lost their lives.
The clue which informed the declaration of Bama wanted, came from revelations from the interrogation of Qaqa and Sokoto, who have been helping to uncover the operations of the sect. Source said the wanted man was strategic to the operations of the group and played critical role in the Christmas Day bombing.
The SSS said Bama was a former soldier, a Kanuri by tribe who hails from Bama in Borno State. He was also said to be known by the following names; Habib Bama, Shuaibu Bama, and Habib Mamman. The statement urged members of the public with any useful information on the wanted person that could lead to his arrest to immediately contact the nearest Police Station, Military formation or any other security agency.
