Siasia Shuns Aiyegbeni

Yakubu Aiyegbeni’s attempt to re-ignite his Super Eagles career has suffered a huge blow after national coach Samson Siasia told him he does not feature in his programme. Siasia is expected back in the country on Saturday from his trip to Europe where he had talks with some of the current players and other targets. The coach is due to kick start his national camp on Monday in Abuja with some local players in readiness for the US President Invitational Cup next month.

Aiyegbeni has not been considered for national duties since his World Cup howler against South Korea when his failure to score with an unguided goal at his mercy largely resulted in Nigeria’s failure to progress into the second round of the tournament.

We learntWednesday that Siasia told Aiyegbeni he wanted to see other players when the burly player got in contact with him on phone during his rescheduled visit to England.
Instead, Siasia is said to be strongly weighing the option of finally giving Newcastle United forward, Shola Ameobi a look in when he assembles his squad.

In the past, Ameobi born in Nigeria ignored the Eagles call up with Christian Chukwu in-charge of the Eagles with high expectation of an invitation from England. He surprisingly changed gear before the South Africa 2010 World Cup but was ignored by Lar Lagerback.

The 29-year-old has scored a handful of goals for Newcastle this season, though he is in the shadow of Andy Caroll who has netted 11 goals for the Magpies in the on going campaign.
