We can conduct 2015 elections without armed men —Jonathan

SATISFIED with the peaceful conduct of political campaign rallies in Cross River State, ahead of the governorship election in the state due on Saturday, President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed his wish to have elections conducted in the country without the presence of armed security men.

Speaking in Calabar, where he was joined by Vice-President Namadi Sambo; Senate President, David Mark; former president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo and many other top ranking officers of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a grand rally of the party, ahead of election, Jonathan said “we campaigned for the principles of one man one vote in the 2011 elections and we achieved that. The next level we hope to achieve is having elections conducted without having the presence of armed security men. We can achieve it even in 2015, if we all agree. We can conduct 2015 elections without armed security men.”

The president extolled the unity in the state chapter of the PDP, describing it as “one united family, one that is unique among others and enviable.”

In his remarks on the occasion, Vice-President Sambo said the Federal Government would continue to support Cross River State and thanked the people for their support during the rallies.

Obasanjo, who also spoke at the rally, said in there was a saying that “when a masquerade is dancing well in the public, the owner is always happy. Imoke is my own masquerade and he is dancing well. So I am happy and that is why I am here.”

In his remarks, the candidate of the party and former governor, Senator Imoke, said PDP would remain as one strong family in the state, adding that he was humbled by the privilege to serve.
