Explosion at Suspected Bomb Factory Kills Three
Borno, Headlines, State News Saturday, March 3rd, 2012A SUSPECTED Boko Haram factory house located in Kaleri and London Chiki area of Maiduguri metropolis in Borno State exploded around 10.30am yesterday, killing three persons said to be in the place at the time of the incident.
The blast was heard about three kilometres radius.
Other bomb-making materials recovered by the Joint Task Force (JTF) after the blast included, remote control devices, wristwatch timers, empty oil drums and bomb-coupling bottles.
Conducting reporters round the factory house yesterday, JTF spokesman, Lt-Col. Hassan Mohammed, said: “As you can see for yourselves, the suspected bombers were coupling the explosives for possible attacks before one of the bombs went off, killing three of them with the destruction of some personal effects.”
The blast ripped off the roofs and rafters of the building, including the body trunks and limbs of the killed suspects, whose body parts were scattered all over the place, while the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), which were yet to be detonated, were also recovered by the JTF at the house.
Residents of the area have since deserted the area following the blast and none of the family members of the dead sect members were seen around, where women and children clothes were also scattered.
Field Operation Officer of JTF, Col. Victor Ebhaleme, said: “This is what we are faced with everyday in ensuring that peace returns to Borno State.
“You can see how they are making the explosives and attaching a wrist watch to it as the timer. This is to show you that they have gone far in this their operations, but thank God the thing is exploding with them.”
He noted that the sect has been going round robbing people , which they use to build houses at the outskirt of town, only to turn such houses into bomb-making factories, while going round town to set fire on school buildings.
