88-year-old man attacked in Ibarapa
Headlines Saturday, March 3rd, 2012Following protest that occurred on Wednesday at Idere in Ibarapa Central Local Government Area of Oyo State over nomination into some political offices, an 88-year-old man, Chief Silas Okunlola Lasunsi, is now lying critical ill at an Igboora hospital, having been attacked by some hoodlums.
Factions of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) have, for three days running, beginning from Monday, been protesting nomination of somebody into office as special assistant to the incumbent chairman of the council, with a faction alleging marginalisation.
According to a source, who spoke with Saturday Tribune on condition of anonymity, while protesters were marching through the street of Idere, hoodlums numbering about 15 stormed the residence of Pa Lasunsi and attacked him with dangerous weapons, even as they beat him to a state of coma.
The hoodlums, Saturday Tribune gathered carted away undisclosed sum of money and handsets of Pa Lasunsi, regarded as a political leader in the community.
State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Olabisi Okuwobi, in a chat with Saturday Tribune confirmed the incident, saying three people had been arrested so far and that investigation was ongoing.
