Shoot treasury looters – Oyebola

Chief Areoye Oyebola has called on the Federal Government to take more drastic actions against corrupt persons to save the country from impending peril.

Oyebola, a writer and journalist of great repute, and founder of the Movement for Nigeria’s Total Transformation, made the call during the launch of his latest book, entitled: Great Issues Nigeria Must Tackle.
Instead of the comical way that the government and its anti corruption agencies were treating the issues of corruption, Oyebola said: “Corrupt people must be given the most rigorous trial and be decisively punished.”
He said each case should be punished according to the extent of proven guilty of each person. The most-guilty category of persons, he said, should be executed publicly to show the seriousness of government, while the next category of guilty persons should be jailed for life.

“The odd practice of plea-bargain whereby brazen losers of the public treasury are allowed to part with a negligible fraction of their loot and go home free to enjoy its balance should be immediately stopped.”
The former editor of Daily Times demanded a closer look at the performance of judges trying corruption cases to ascertain their probity and those found to be in secret collusion with the crooks should be thrown out of the hallowed chambers of justice and be made to refund all bribes such judicial officers might have taken.
The event, which had in attendance, the human rights activist, Femi Falana, Chief Mrs Ganiyat Fawehinmi, the widow of the late human rights activist and Lagos lawyer, Chief Gani Fawehinmi and many other human rights activists was chaired by Dr. Pat Utomi of Lagos Business School, himself a human rights activist.

Utomi eulogized the author for his dogged fight for good governance that he had traced back to his days as the editor of the Daily Times and his books including the most known ‘Black Man’s Dilemma’.
The representative of Lagos State governor, Pastor Adebiyi, said those opposing the call for Sovereign National Conference were only displaying their ignorance of the events of this time in the country.
