Boko Haram next to civil war –Northern govs (See what you created?)

The 19 Northern Governors’ Forum (NGF)  yesterday lamented and declared that the Islamist sect, Boko Haram insurgency was the greatest security challenge  facing the region after the civil war of over 30 years ago. To this end, the governors summoned to their meeting, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa’ad Abubakar and three other emirs on how to bring to an end the Boko Haram menace.

The Sultan led the Emir of Kazaure, Najip Adamu, Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar and the Gbong Gwong, Jos, Buba Gyan to the governor’s meeting, which started at about 11.30 am.

Addressing journalists at the opening ceremony of the meeting, the Chairman of the forum, who is also the Governor of Niger State, Mauzu Babangida Aliyu noted that it had become almost a daily ritual for leaders in the region to console themselves over incident of bombings and killings in the North.

Aliyu, however, expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for adopting the white paper of the committee that looked at insecurity situation in the North-east. “Since after the civil war, the North is facing the greatest challenge of our lives in terms of security of lives and property.

“We condole ourselves everyday on what is happening. I am sure many of us have condoled the governor of Kano State and it appears like a recurrent decimal in Borno State and the condolences that are going to Borno State governor are becoming almost a daily affair. “Sultan of Sokoto and three other emirs here are expected to give us their conclusion on their meeting on security.

“Some development partners are also here to tell us new dimensions on how they now want us to relate with them and the type of assistance they are also looking for, so that we can develop our relationship stronger.
“It is, however, important to tell the media that there is no need we instigate the people against their leaders because, with what we see and read today, there is no strong relationship between the media and those of us in the administration. This is the time we need to come together to really salvage our situation.
