Northern Christians Declare Fasting, Prayers

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern states and Abuja has declared a three-day fasting and prayers for peace and for God to intervene in the nation’s affairs.
The association also called on Nigerians to come out en mass to participate in the voters registration exercise as part of steps towards ensuring the emergence of credible and God fearing leadership that will transform the nation.
In a statement issued at the end of its emergency meeting in Kaduna at the weekend, the association said the country needs serious prayers for peace and for God to direct its affairs.
The statement signed by the secretary of the association, Elder Saidu Dogo, said the three days fasting would commence from January 14 to 16 during which Christians are expected to offer special prayers for the country.
The statement noted that the Nigerian nation at its critical moments, stressing that the time had come for all well meaning citizens to pray for the country to overcome the challenges confronting it.
The statement appealed to politicians to shun acts that could bring about disharmony among the citizenry and conduct themselves in a peaceful manner during the forthcoming general elections.
