Gunmen kill DPO in Enugu
Enugu, Headlines, Nigerian Police, State News Monday, April 30th, 2012The Enugu State Police Command yesterday said it has commenced investigations into the killing of a Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and a Superintendent of Police, Okey Ofoedu by gunmen last Saturday.
The state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ebere Amaraizu, a deputy superintendent of police, who disclosed this in a statement said Ofoedu who was the DPO in charge of Oji River Police Division in Enugu was killed at Ojinator along Awka/Oji River Old Road at about 18:30hours.
According to him, the slain officer was returning from an engagement and heading towards his office when he was shot. He later died in a hospital.
Amaraizu further stated that his assailants numbering about four and operating in a Passat car may have trailed him to that spot and shot at him severally before he was hit by their bullets.
He said all attempts to revive Ofoedu proved abortive as the doctor on duty later confirmed him dead.
The officer said the body of the DPO had been taken to a nearby hospital for a post mortem examination.
The PPRO also said the state Commissioner of Police, Musa A. Daura, had described the incident as unfortunate even as he assured that his command, in partnership with other relevant security agencies and stakeholders would do everything possible to track down the assailants and bring them to book.
