EFCC storms FAAN office over Maevis deal
EFCC Politics Tuesday, May 15th, 2012Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission on Monday stormed the headquarters of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria in Lagos.
The operatives, who came to the premises about 10:25am in a Toyota Hiace bus with an Abuja number plate BK 562 RBC, went straight to the office of the Managing Director of the agency, Mr. George Uriesi.
The team comprised four officials in mufti and one uniformed mobile policeman. After spending about 15 minutes in the managing director’s office, the team left the premises.
The purpose of the visit could not be ascertained as of press time. Uriesi was said to have left for Abuja on an official duty.
A top official of FAAN, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorised to speak on the matter, confirmed the visit.
He said the officials were in the premises to make certain clarifications over the concession agreement between FAAN and one of it major concessionaires, Maevis.
However, the General Manager, Public Affairs, Mr. Akin Olukunle, could not confirm the visit as a press time.
He said, “I don’t have the details of their visit, if at all they visited. We have written petitions to the EFCC in recent times. They might have come for verifications.
“But my MD is not around. He is in a meeting in Abuja. But I cannot tell you that they were here to arrest my MD or anybody.”
The spokesman of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujare, said he would get back to our correspondent when he was first contacted on the matter.
When our correspondent called him later on, he said he had yet to get information on the visit.
