Oliseh mourns Okafor

Former Nigeria international, Sunday Oliseh has described the death of his former team mate in the national team, Uche Okafor as a “very great loss to Nigerian football. Sunday Oliseh Speaking in an interview with BBC, the former Super Eagles attacking midfielder said, “”there is something a lot of people don’t talk about. In a team, some people who do the work do not talk. When we won the Nations Cup in Tunisia, Uche played in the central defence. He was the man who did most of the job. One thing people don’t notice is that those who warm the bench talk more. Uche was the unsong hero of the Tunisia ‘94 squad.” Oliseh recalled that at USA ‘94, the late Uche Okafor did not play much because of the presence of Chidi Nwanu. “He did not play much because he lost his shirt to Chidi. But that notwithstanding, he was still an important part of the squad and still played a key role. It is a big loss indeed,” he lamented. He said he remembered Uche as a hard working young man whom he worked closely with. “I worked with him a lot because he was in the central defence, right behind me. We struck an understanding on the pitch that would be hard to forget. He was dedicated and a very positive person,”
