National Youth Service Corps has directed members of the scheme yet to receive their April allowances to report defaulting banks to their respective state NYSC secretariats.

Many corps members had accused the NYSC of non-payment of their April allowances.

But the National Headquarters of the NYSC insisted that it had paid the allowances via e-payment.

Corps members, who spoke with one of our correspondents said the money had not been paid.

A corps member serving  with a company in Lagos, said, “My colleagues and I have been to the banks many times and they (bank officials) have been telling us is that the money is not ready.

In a statement by the Head, Press and Public Relations Unit, Mrs. Abosede Aderibigbe, on Wednesday, said although the payment, was delayed, the allowances had been paid into the corps members’ accounts.

It read in part, “Further to the Honourable Minister of Youth Development’s release on the above mentioned subject matter stating reasons for the late payment of the April, 2012 personal allowances of corps members, this is to inform all corps members and other stakeholders of the NYSC that the payment of the said allowances had been made through e-payment, on receipt of necessary funds from the office of the Accountant General of the Federation on 17th May 2012.”

It added, “All corps members are thereby requested to check with their banks and lodge complaints with their NYSC State Secretariats where such payments have not been cleared.

“Efforts are on to ensure prompt payment of May 2012 allowances.”
