Oyo: Akala’s loyalists sweep PDP Assembly’s primaries

Despite the late arrival of the officials of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from the national headquarters for the primaries into the 32-seat Oyo State legislative arm, the election was successful with loyalists of Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala, winning most of the seats.

Among those that emerged as winner is Mr. Jimoh Fadipe, the lawmaker who was claimed to have recently been arraigned by the Oyo State Police Command with other suspects for their alleged involvement in the possession of arms and ammunition during the rally of the PDP held at the ancient Mapo Hall, Ibadan.

Others who were victorious at the controversial-but-peaceful election are Messrs Tunde Jinadu, the chairman, House Committee on Information and Media Relations for Ibadan North state constituency 1, Elder Abioye of Surulere/Ogo-Oluwa state constituency, Niyi Ojolowo of Kajola state constituency, Niyi Farinto for Iwajowa state constituency.

Also, Yahya Adetunji, was elected in Ibadan North state constituency 1, and Taju Salau for Ibarapa North/Central state constituency.
The results in Egbeda, Iddo and Oluyole state constituencies were still being awaited as the Secretary of the party, Mr. Bashiru Akanbi, said election was yet to commence.

Before the commencement of the election, many aspirants wore forlorn looks yesterday as a result of the late arrival of the party’s officials from Abuja.

Though the exercise was billed to start around 10 am, Vanguard gathered that many of the aspirants got tired of waiting for the officials who were said to have arrived Ibadan at 12 midnight on Sunday.

Due to their late arrival, the screening of the aspirants into the 32-State constituencies did not take off until 3.00am on Monday.
