Colorado Massacre: Group warns Nigerians against U.S. travel

The raging and sustained gun violence plaguing the United States of America as evidenced in the recent shooting deaths of twelve innocent Americans in a Colorado movie theatre has prompted a Nigerian group, “Nigerians for Travel Safe Organization” to issue an unusual warning to Nigerians travelling abroad to avoid the United States as the North American country is prone to violence and considered unsafe for travel.

Speaking to New Nigerian Politics from his base in Lagos, the founder and president of the organization, Dr. Tunde Olusamfor, regretted the needless loss of lives in the recent shootings and used the occasion to issue a travel advisory to Nigerians to be very vigilant and careful of their movements if they have to visit the United States for business or pleasure.

Said he, “The United States is fast becoming one of the most dangerous countries in the world with the incessant destruction of lives and properties without provocation. Only a few months ago, a young Nigerian lawyer in her forties was one of the victims of a senseless shooting in California. Five years ago, the lives of thirty-two students at Virginia Tech were ended by a deranged gunman seeking revenge for a high school bullying experience. In that same Colorado, in April 1999, two students massacred twelve of their classmates and a teacher at Columbine High School and then committed suicide. There are many more examples of senseless shootings in the United States and there is no telling where or who will be the next victim,” Dr. Olusamfor stated.

He advised Nigerians in the United States to avoid large gatherings, night clubs, malls and movie theatres as those places appear to be favorite targets for deranged and misguided Americans who have easy access to guns and ammunitions. “America will continue to be plagued by such unfortunate incidents until its political leaders wake up to their responsibilities of ensuring public safety by tightly regulating gun ownership or revisiting the 2^nd Amendment that guarantees the right to bear arms,” declared Dr. Olusamfor.wp_posts
