JTF kills 20 suspected terrorists in Borno
Armed Forces, Borno, Headlines, State News Sunday, August 12th, 2012Joint Task Force said on Sunday it killed 20 suspected Boko Haram members in a shootout as they raided an Islamist hideout in Maiduguri.
One soldier was also killed in the attack.
Security forces had intelligence that some members of the group were holding a gathering at a location in Maiduguri, said Colonel Victor Ebhaleme, field operations officer of the military and police mixed Joint Task Force in Borno.
“When we approached the venue of their meeting point, the terrorists opened fire on the JTF, which led to the killing of 20 terrorists while we lost one soldier and two others sustained injury,” Reuters quoted him as saying.
Boko Haram did not comment and it was not possible to independently confirm the report.
On Saturday, Nigerian security forces discovered a bomb-making factory in Kano.
Meanwhile, gun battle between the JTF and suspected Boko Haram members resumed on Sunday in Damaturu the Yobe state capital .
Yobe State Commissioner of Police Patrick Egbuniwe said the gun battle began when the JTF were on patrol of Bundigari- Powari areas of Damaturu.
