Robbers kill bureau de change operator•Raid bank in Ekiti, carted away money

A bureau de change operator, Ibraheem, was on Wednesday killed by armed robbers, who invaded the Somolu Central Hotel in Somolu area of Lagos State.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that the incident, which occurred around 4.00p.m., created serious tension, as people feared Hausas may retaliate.

It was also gathered that the robbers escaped with the money stolen from the slain Hausa man.

An eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, said that the three-man robbery gang pretended to be customers, who wanted to change money from the deceased.

“ They took advantage of the fact that the elder brother of the slain man had gone to mosque to pray, so they perpetrated their dastardly act.

“Immediately they found out that he was the only one around, they showed him their guns; he struggled with them and one of them shot at him, he said.”

The incident had since been reported at the Alade Divisional Police Station.

Efforts to get the reaction of the image maker of the state police command, Ngozi Braise, to speak on the incident, failed.

In a related development, armed robbers on Thursday, raided a first generation bank in Ifaki-Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State, and allegedly carted away an undisclosed amount of money.

It was gathered that the robbers invaded the community around 12.30p.m. in a convoy of four vehicles.

However, there was no death recorded during the incident, but the robbers escaped through Aramoko road in the town.

Confirming the incident, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Sotonye Wakama, said three vehicles were recovered from the fleeing gang in Aramoko-Ekiti in Ekiti West Local Government Area of the state.

Wakama said his men engaged the robbers in a gun duel at Aramoko, where they abandoned their vehicles, but added that none of the robbers was arrested.
