FG asks airforce to patrol borders

THE Federal Government has tasked the Nigerian Airforce with additional responsibility of patrolling and surveilling the country’s border.
The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Umar, who announced this on Wednesday while declaring open a two-day retreat for unit commanders and directors, said already, the operational bases were active with over 65 per cent of aircraft fleets.
While charging the commanders to meet up with this additional responsibilities, the Chief of Air Staff also acknowledged their involvement in internal security across the country, while assuring that they would not be overstretched.
He noted that to achieve the task, there was the need for thorough planning and coordination of operational and logistics activities, as well as administration, in order to execute assigned tasks in a effective manner.
Umar, speaking on the theme of the retreat, “Reawakening the fundamental concepts of effective eommand, said it was apt and timely, considering the security challenges confronting the nation.
In his welcome address, the Chief of Training and Operation, Air Vice Marshal Ishaku Umar, regretted that recent events and developments suggested various lapses in their operations, adding that it must not be business as usual.wp_posts
