Encomiums Galore, As HID Receives 2012 Female Leader Award

The matriarch of the Awolowo dynasty, Chief (Dr.) Mrs. H.I.D. Awolowo, has been described as an outstanding entrepreneur and woman of principle, whose life has influenced a vast majority of Nigerians from different walks of life.
The Senior Pastor of Trinity House, a non-denominational church based in Victoria Island, Lagos, Pastor Ituah Ighodalo, made the remark when he presented the Yeye Oodua with the prestigious award of Trinity House 2012 Female Leader and Role Model.

The award, which was presented at the Ikenne, Ogun State State home of the Awolowo family, is in recognition of Chief (Mrs) Awolowo’s untiring efforts at nation building and national unity, as well as her indisputable status as the rallying point for democracy and its ideas.

Ighodalo said Chief (Mrs.) Awolowo remained the source of inspiration to a lot of leaders as she had distinguished herself in the society through selfless service to humanity.

He said apart from being an epitome of family value, leadership and integrity, she is “a woman, who has consistently championed the cause of the masses,” adding that she deserved every honour and accolade of an Amazon.

While wishing her a happy birthday in advance as she clocks 97 in November, Ighodalo recalled what he described as her immense contribution to the political career of her husband, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, during his lifetime.

In her remarks on the occasion, Chief (Mrs) Awolowo expressed profound apprecaiation for the gesture, saying: “I am delighted to receive today, the Trinity House 2012 Female Leader and Role Model Award.”

She commended the initiators for the “brilliant concept recognising and celebrating individuals who have distinguished themselves in different spheres of life.”

Chief (Mrs) Awolowo prayed God to continue to give them the grace “to carry on with the good work,” which she noted, deserved commendation and encouragement from all and sundry.

She promised not to relent in offering selfless service to humanity.
