Sambo’s convoy injures policemen in Kaduna
Headlines Wednesday, January 19th, 2011Tragedy struck in Kaduna on Wednesday, when three mobile policemen attached to the Kaduna State security outfit, Operation Yaki, were knocked down allegedly by the convoy of Vice-President, Mohammed Namadi Sambo, who was in Kaduna to participate in the on going voter registration.
Already, there were conflicting reports that one of the affected policemen was dead while two were receiving treatment in a Kaduna hospital.
However, spokesperson for the Kaduna State Police Command, DSP Aminu Lawal, told reporters on the phone that the mobile policemen were treated and discharged.
But an eyewitness said the OperationYaki vehicle with registration number AH 465 MKR lost control and crushed the mobile policemen who were at the venue where the vice president was expected to be registered.
However, shortly after he registered, Sambo assured Nigerians that the 2011 general election would rank among the best conducted in the world in recent times, as there would definitely be improvement in the on oing registration of voters.
Together with his wife, Hajiya Amina,they were registerd at Ribadu Cresent Unit, Ungwar Rimi, where Sambo said that the Federal Government would keep its word to conduct a free, fair and credible polls which would be the envy of the international community in April, this year.
“ I came to Kaduna this afternoon to do my civic duty of registering for the oncoming 2011 elections and I am also pleased that the process took less than four minutes and, therefore, the processes have improved.” he said.
“I have been reliably informed that the software for fingerprints hase been replaced with a faster one and the youth corpers doing the exercise are now fully familiar with the system and it is going very fast. I want to sieze this opportunity to invite all eligible Nigerians who are above 18 years old to as, a matter of responsibility and urgency make sure that they register.
“I want to assure Nigerians again that Mr. president, President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, is very serious about ensuring that the 2011 elections shall be one man, one vote. It will be a transparent election and it will be one of the best elections in the world Insha Allah.
“The Federal Executive Council did not review the exercise at its weekly meeting. We are waiting for a briefing from INEC and it will be a better review when we have a fuller council.
“The security of the corpers and all Nigerians who are going for registration is fully guaranteed and I want to assure Nigerians that they should go about their normal duties”, he said.wp_posts
