Anti-Jonathan Protests in Katsina, Bauchi
Bauchi, Katsina, State News, Top Stories Thursday, January 20th, 2011Hundred of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in Katsina State took to the streets protesting the emergence of President Goodluck Jonathan as the PDP presidential candidate during the just concluded party presidential primary.
The protesting members of the party also burnt over 40, 0000 PDP membership cards, stating that they have dumped the party because it has abandoned the previous zoning arrangement.
Leader of the protest Alhaji Yazid Ahmed Rafin Dadi said the party has violated the zoning arrangement which gives the north two terms of four years, after power shifted to the region through late President Yar’Adua.
A similar incident played out in Bauchi where some group of youths in the metropolis weekend protested over the voting pattern adopted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) northern delegates to the just concluded presidential primary election in Abuja.
Our correspondent who monitored the protest reported that the youth took over the streets of Nassarawa and Ran roads, chanting: “Bamuso, bamuyin Jonathan” meaning: “We don’t want, we are not for Jonathan”. They also rained insults on delegates from the state who voted for Jonathan.
They burnt some PDP flags and umbrellas to show their annoyance over the voting pattern of the special National convention of the Party.
However, the protesters were later dispersed by the joint security operatives comprising of police and soldiers along Nassarawa street.
Speaking to newsmen the leader of the youth Comrade Aliyu Ladan said they were disappointed with some of the governors in the north that compelled delegates to vote for Jonathan.
But in Jigawa state, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa state has reacted to the allegation of anti-Jonathan protests by some party members in the state, saying the party men remain loyal and committed to the decision of its convention.
