The Nigerian organization, “Nigerians for Safe Travel” has issued a travel advisory against U.S.travel following the massacre of 26 innocent children and adults at the elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut. The organization in a statement forwarded to New Nigerian Politics and other media outlets warned Nigerians to avoid the United States in their travels given the rampant gun violence that is consuming the North American country.
The statement reads in part, “Nigerians with unavoidable travel to the United States should take extreme caution and if possible invest in bullet proof vest as that country has become one of the most dangerous and violent countries in the world with more than 10,000 killed yearly by gun violence. This advisory is issued against the backdrop of recent senseless and unprovoked killings in the last three months in Colorado, Oregon, Connecticut and just two days ago in Rochester, NY where two fire fighters were shot dead.”
The statement continues, “Americans obsession with guns and their easy access to military-like weapons should be of grave concern to any Nigerian wishing to visit the United States, especially, in a country where racism and anti-black sentiments are still very much alive.”
The statement, signed by the President, Dr. Tunde Olusamfor, concludes by warning Nigerians already in the U.S. and those wishing to travel in spite of the dangers to avoid large gatherings, theatres, schools, malls and places that could be easily targeted by another deranged American seeking revenge, recognition or both. The statement called on the U.S. government to tighten gun laws to protect the lives of innocent Americans and forestall future massacres. wp_posts
