Bayelsa House passes vote of confidence on Dickson
Bayelsa, Headlines, State News Wednesday, December 26th, 2012From Femi Folaranmi, Yenagoa
The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has passed a vote of confidence on Governor Henry Seriake Dickson. Controversy had dogged some of the policy decisions and political actions of Governor Dickson in recent times, with some political appointees grumbling that they were being sidelined.
While civil servants in the state were increasingly getting worried over the decision of the Dickson administration to introduce a new Pay-As-You-Earn Tax regime in the state, many members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are not happy over the way candidates were imposed on the party for the local government election primaries with the full backing of Governor Dickson. However, the House of Assembly during its last meeting for the year said it was passing a vote of confidence on Dickson for what it called his brilliant performance in the last nine months.
Moving the motion, the deputy leader of the House, Tonye Emmanuel Isenah, representing Kolokuma/Opokuma Constituency I, gave several reasons why the House should pass a vote of confidence on the governor. The motion, which was seconded by the member representing Southern Ijaw Constituency II Daniel Igali was subsequently adopted as a document of parliament. Meanwhile, Dickson has assured pensioners in Bayelsa State that the government would ensure the prompt payment of their gratuities and pensions.
According to him, the problem of pensioners, which predated his administration would be resolved once and for all under his administration. On the efforts of the state government to curb corrupt practices and block financial leakages, he said there was no going back as the efforts had been rewarding for the state government. Dickson reiterated the developmental agenda of his administration, adding that the decision to aggressively pursue road infrastructural projects to the Atlantic Ocean from the three senatorial districts was still on course.
