69 die in FCT fire incidents in 2012

As 2012 finally ended few days ago, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) is taking stock of major events that shaped 2012 in the nation’s capital. According to records made available to Daily Sun, a total number of 69 lives and property worth N765.7 million were said to have been lost to incidences of fire that broke out in and around the FCT in 2012.
On the other hand, a total of 239 lives with property worth N3.17 billion were also saved from inferno in the same year, according to statistics made available yesterday by the Minister of FCT, Mr. Bala Mohammed. The minister who made the disclosure after looking into the activities of the FCT Urban Affairs Department stated that FCT Fire Service received 486 fire and 103 rescue calls within the same period.
No further details on the incidences were revealed to journalists, but the minister who expressed satisfaction for the gallantry of fire officers commended them for the outstanding performance during the period. He assured the residents that the administration was poised to improve on the safety of their lives and property this year. Mohammed urged the officials to redouble their efforts towards achieving more goals and pledged that his administration would pay increased attention to capacity building for staff of the administration.
He said the step would enhance their productivity and improve service delivery.
