No great changes in Judiciary in 2013 – SANs
Judiciary, Latest Politics Sunday, January 13th, 2013BY BARTHOLOMEW MADUKWE
TWO Senior Advocates of Nigeria, SANs, including constitutional lawyer, Professor Itse Sagay, SAN, have said nothing extra-ordinary has taken place in the nation’s judiciary that will bring about positive changes in 2013.
Prof. Sagay argued: “We will just continue the way it has been, I do not see any major difference simply because we are in 2013. The New Year is of no significance. There may be a new Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, but I am yet to see that she has any revolutionary programme.
Another Senior Advocate, Mr. Abiodun Owonikoko, SAN, however, lamented the delay in delivery of justice, stressing that this New Year, lawyers expected to see a judiciary that would restore the people’s confidence.
He said “Issue of too much time spent on a matter in court, thereby delaying justice delivery, should first be tackled.”
