Drop Ejide now, NFF warns Keshi

NFF Technical Committee member Austin Elumelu has called for the immediate replacement of injured goalkeeper, Austin Ejide. This is even as the injured goalkeeper has resumed light training ahead of full fitness return for the Nations Cup this weekend.

Ejide sustained an injury in Wednesday’s 0-0 draw with Cape Verde in Faro, Portugal and he has been under medical scrutiny ever since. Elumelu feels there is no time for the Israel-based goalkeeper to make a quick recovery.

“Keshi should not take any gamble with Ejide. We were initially told he will be ok by the weekend but we are hearing reports that he need about two weeks to make full recovery. I don’t think its wise to still have him in the team. He should replace him with Daniel Akpeyi, the goalkeeper on the standby list. Hoping on Ejide’s fitness at this late hour amounts to gambling by Keshi”, Elumelu warned

The bubble in the Super Eagles camp continued on Monday as goalkeeper, Austin Ejide, resumed light training ahead of full fitness return for the Nations Cup in Faro, Portugal on Monday morning.

Super Eagles Media Officer, Ben Alaiya, reports that the light training schedule for the player started on Sunday morning, when he was passed fit to embark on swimming therapy by the national team medics. By early morning training on Monday , Ejide, was fit as a fiddle but still being closely monitored to avoid a relapse by the medical crew.

He was to be seen in training with keeper’s trainer, Ike Shorunmu and Physiotherapist, Olawale Oladejo. The Medics however said they won’t rush the Israeli based keeper into action but all was looking very well for him to bounce back in a record time.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will play its last training match today against Portuguese second division side, Farense in Faro, Portuguese, before departing Faro, for South Africa on Wednesday. The match earlier scheduled for 12noon Portuguese time, which is 1pm Nigerian time has been pushed forward a bit due to logistics.
