Emir of Kano Attack: Reps Tell Jonathan to dialogue with Boko Haram
Boko Haram, House, Legislature Wednesday, January 23rd, 2013In the bid to find lasting solution to the prevailing security
challenges in the country, House of Representatives has called on
Federal Government to dialogue with the ethno-religious sect, Boko
Haram.
The resolution was reached following the debate on the recent
attack on the convoy of Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero.
Muhammad Bashir Galadanchi, representing Gwale federal
constituency, Kano state, sponsor of a motion under matters of
matters of urgent public importance, also commiserated with the
Emir and the families of those killed.
The lawmakers who called for deliberated action towards tackling
the insecurity of lives, noted that the security and welfare of the
people as stipulated in Section 14 (2) (b) of the Constitution is the
primary purpose of government.
He however pointed out that the present approach by the federal
government to curb insecurity in the nation through military action,
random arrests and imprisonment have had limited effectiveness
and escalated trends of insecurity indicated that they are only short-
term solutions.
The lawmakers also said that if the present approach is not
reversed and more long-term solutions deployed, the incessant
incidents will pose serious threats to the nation’s security,
democracy, right and freedom of the citizens and also destabilise
the nation’s fragile stability and unity.
