Attack on Emir: JTF arrests three, demolishes suspect’s building in Kano

From DESMOND MGBOH, Kano

Security operatives in Kano have arrested three suspects, as part of the ongoing efforts to rid the state of terrorists. Credible sources told Daily Sun that the suspects might have been arrested in connection with the attack on the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, which occurred a few weeks ago.

Unknown gunmen ambushed the monarch, while he was returning from an Islamic graduation ceremony (Saukan Karatu), which took place at Murtala Mohammed Mosque (Masallaci Murtala) in Hausawa Quarters of the state capital. Three of his aides were killed in the attack. Security sources told Daily Sun that the suspects were picked from different locations in the state capital, in a coordinated operation that was ongoing as at the time of filing this report.

A source told Daily Sun that it was a “case of one suspect leading to the arrest of the next suspect,” while expressing the hope that the interrogation of the suspects already taken into custody, could still lead to additional arrests. Among the highpoints of the operation was the demolition of the house of the key suspect by members of the Joint Security Task Force.

The said house, a pink coloured house, was situated at Dorayi Charanchi, in the outskirt of the state capital. A number of weapons, including an unspecified numbers of AK 47, assort rifles, were seized from the building before the bulldozers of the security operatives demolished it. Daily Sun was told that besides the key suspect, one other suspect was arrested at Yan Kaba Quarters.

Efforts by the Daily Sun reporter to get the spokesman of the Joint Security Task Force, Captain Ikedechi Iweha for confirmation was unsuccessful. But it was gathered that JTF would brief the newsmen today on the unfolding development.
