PORT HARCOURT—THE Rivers State House of Assembly, yesterday, passed a vote of confidence on Governor Chibuike Amaechi of the state.
The motion, signed by 26 of the 36 members, dominated the Assembly’s debate, yesterday.
The motion presented by Leader of the House, Mr. Chidi Lloyd, said that the stance of the lawmakers had become imperative following perceived recent antagonism targeted at the governor.
Several lawmakers, who argued in favour of the motion, affirmed that the governor had done well in steering the ship of governance and development of the state, noting that the motion was timely to encourage him (Amaechi) to do more and to challenge any attempt to malign him.
Speaker of the House, Otelemaba Dan Amachree put the motion to vote, with 23 members supporting same, while three abstained.
The House also voted in favour of a special session to be held with the governor to enable the Assembly convey the confidence vote and commend him over his leadership of the state.
Reacting differently, the member representing Obia/Akpor II, said that the governor was merely doing his work as chief executive of the state and does not deserve any accolade for doing the job for which he was elected.
