Keshi releases list for Kenyan tie, Yobo dropped, Martins in

The Super Eagles Coach, Stephen Keshi, has not invited Captain Joseph Yobo for this month’s 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifying match against the Harambee Stars of Kenya.

The coach invited 15 overseas based players, but left out the Fenerbahce of Turkey defender who played a bit-part role as Nigeria romped to her third Africa Cup of Nations triumph in South Africa.

The list, made public on Thursday, has Chelsea ace, Mikel Obi, topping the list of the15 overseas-based professionals.

Eleven of those called were in the squad that lifted the Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa last month, while rapid-raider, Obafemi Martins, made a return.

There was also a surprise call for Ukraine-based Babatunde Michael, who played for the Dream Team at the inaugural CAF U-23 Championship in Morocco 15 months ago.

Midfielder, Nnamdi Oduamadi, who also shone brightly for the last U-23 squad in their qualifying games, was called. But the biggest dark horse seems to be Portugal-based midfielder, John Ogu.

Keshi had earlier released the list of the Nigerian based players invited to camp for the match.

African champions, Nigeria, will take on Kenya’s Harambee Stars in one of the Day 3 matches of Group F of the 2014 FIFA World Cup race.

Nigeria leads the group on four points while Kenya is in the bottom with one point. They clash at the U.J. Esuene Stadium, Calabar on Saturday, March 23.
