Why I’m Not Registered Yet, By Governor Obi

ANAMBRA State Governor,  Peter Obi, yesterday explained why he had not participated in the ongoing voter registration in the country. In a live Radio Programme on Rhythm FM, Awka —Viewpoints — the governor said the delay was necessitated by the need to ensure that all eligible citizens of the state are duly registered.

Obi, who called on the people of the state to be vigilant against “those scheming to perpetuate fraud under the veneer voter registration, also stated that the state government had since scaled up water provision — from drilling of boreholes to 17 small town water projects — with Obizi, Nimo, and Nibo-Nise water schemes in various stages of completion.

He said that the Awkuzu, Ifitedunu and water schemes of some other towns would soon be flagged off.

On the ongoing road reconstruction projects across the state, the governor said it was in line with his promise that massive road construction would continue after the rain. He identified Amansea-Ebenebe and Ogboji- Aguluezechukwu roads as problematic, assuring, however, that the issues are being addressed to ensure completion of the road projects.

Obi, who regretted that state institutions are still asking for increase in subventions, described   “restlessness among some labour unions,” as an understandable sign of insatiability of the human and institutional nature. He said his administration had increased subvention to the Judiciary from N200,000 to N10million, just as all other institutions in the  state  got enhanced packages in the area of subventions. He called on the people of the state to realise that “Anambra must always leave within its income.”

The Governor assured on value creation and re-orientation, stating that his administration would continue to create jobs by attracting investors, as well as working with institutions that would add value to the state.

Commenting on the batched employment of teachers, the governor, who said that the exercise started with the recent employment of 200 people, assured that more are in the process of being employed.

Participants in the programme were full of commendations for the Governor and urged him not to relent in his fidelity and commitment to the progress and development of the state.
