EFCC arraigns three suspected oil thieves in Benin

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arraigned three suspects, Onoshride Usen, Babangida Bello and Nurah Mohammed at a Federal High Court in Benin, Edo State.

The Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, said in a statement on Wednesday that the three suspects were arraigned before Justice A. M. Liman, on two counts of conspiracy and illegal dealing in petroleum products.

However, Uwujaren said that accused persons pleaded not guilty when the charges were read out to them.

The EFCC spokesman said the accused persons were arrested by the men of the Joint Task Force from the 4th Brigade of the Nigerian Army at Ehor, along the Lagos-Benin Expressway, with a DAF truck with Lagos number plate XZ127APP, which was loaded with 33,000 litres of illegal petroleum products on October 23, 2014.

Uwujaren said the presiding Justice granted bail to the suspects in the sum of N1m and a surety each in the same sum.

He said the surety must be resident, and an owner of a landed property in the jurisdiction covered by the court which must be verified by the register of the court.
